PIQUA, Ohio — 6 November, 2008 – Hartzell Propeller Inc. has earned FAA approval of a new Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) which will permit its scimitar PHC-J3YF-2UF/FC7391DB 3-bladed propellers to be offered for Beechcraft 58 Barons factory-equipped with fluid anti-ice systems. This complements Hartzell’s original STC for these propellers which covered only the 58 and G58 Barons equipped with electro-thermal boots or without any ice protection equipment.

The new kit features two Hartzell factory-booted propellers, two new spinner assemblies, new slinger rings, and innovative stainless steel travel tubes. The kit is certified for use on all model 58 Barons from s/n TH-1 to TH-1498 regardless of original propeller make or model, provided the aircraft is powered by its original engine model.

“Our new 75” diameter scimitar design is derived from the same air racing propeller model that has earned a perfect decade of success for us in the Sport Class at the Reno National Air Races”, said Mike Trudeau, Top Prop program manager at Hartzell Propeller. “This new design is shorter and more efficient than other, conventional designs.  The reduced diameter provides the benefits of better ground clearance and reduced noise levels.  The race-derived scimitar airfoils provide enhanced climb and cruise performance, not to mention that they give the Baron a distinctive new look,” he added.

“We strive to design propellers that set new international standards” said Trudeau. “Our new Top Prop now offers all model 58, 58A, and G58 Baron owners better performance all around, as well as the longest warrantees and recommended TBOs in the business.”

In part, the keys to success of the new STC are the re-designed fluid slingers and innovative stainless steel travel tubes that are compatible with the Baron’s existing anti-ice systems.

Cost for the complete Baron kits are $25,495.00, which includes two PHC-J3YF-2UF/FC7391DB anti-iced scimitar-shaped, blended airfoil propellers, highly polished spinners, installation hardware and all STC documentation. Trade-in/ market value of owners’ existing props is not factored in the price. The STC conversion comes with a 2,400 hour/6 year TBO, plus a warranty for 3 years/1000 hours of coverage.

Today, Hartzell Propeller is widely recognized as the leader in advanced propeller design and manufacturing technology. The company has developed the next generation of propellers based upon innovative “blended airfoil” technology and is manufacturing these blades on revolutionary machining centers, or with its new ASC-II™ composite technology to provide mission-optimized performance for its customers. Hartzell traces its beginnings in 1917 to a relationship with Orville Wright and was founded on the principle of “Built on Honor” – a tradition that continues today.
