Hartzell will now be able to more quickly obtain STCs for its OEM and Top Prop™ retrofit customers.

PIQUA, Ohio – January 12, 2005 – Hartzell Propeller Inc. announced today that the FAA has given the company special status as a Designated Alteration Station (DAS). This will allow the company to issue its own Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) for propeller installations on Part 23 airplanes including single and multi-engine piston and turbine-engined aircraft. It also includes the authority to install related components such as propeller de-ice and anti-ice systems, propeller governors, synchronizing and synchrophasing systems, and spinners.  DAS authority will allow Hartzell to obtain STC approvals faster for OEM aircraft as well as for the Hartzell Top Prop™ retrofit program, providing a future benefit to many general aviation aircraft owners and operators.

Hartzell Propeller currently holds more than 50 STCs and this extensive experience was a key factor in being granted DAS authority. The company is believed to be the first propeller manufacturer in the world to receive this authority.

The new DAS authority extends throughout the entire certification process from initial conception, design and flight testing through preparation and approval of STC installation instructions, flight manual supplements, maintenance manual supplements and final issuance of the STC.
