The two-blade aluminum propeller offers an option for Continental O-470 powered Cessna 180 A-J models.

Piqua, Ohio (June 29, 2026) — Hartzell Propeller, a Signia Aerospace company, has secured the supplemental type certificate (STC) approval on its new Frontier aluminum propeller for Cessna 180 Skywagon airplanes equipped with Continental O-470 engines. Targeted to serve Skywagon models A-J, the Frontier joins the extensive Top Prop lineup to offer a true performance-enhancing, cost-effective solution to upgrading the utility and backcountry legend.

The 88-inch prop, in an all-aluminum design, features 2 distinctive scimitar blades plus an aluminum hub. The Frontier preserves the classic style of the tailwheel Skywagon, maintaining its superior prop clearance profile, even considering the extended blade length, for enviable performance and honest ramp appeal.

Featuring the industry-leading Top Prop Warranty through the first overhaul, the Frontier prop gives the owner peace of mind for this workhorse airplane, along with up to 5%  in performance improvements on ground roll, total takeoff distance, and climb.

Cleared For Adventure

“The Skywagon community has been looking for a way to get more performance from these trusted aircraft without the downtime and expense of an engine upgrade,” said JJ Frigge, president of Hartzell Propeller. “The Frontier is our answer—an affordable, two-blade aluminum Hartzell propeller designed to help pilots get off the ground faster, climb out of tight strips better, and give the Skywagon a presence you can hear as well as feel. It is an especially compelling solution for floatplane operators and pilots flying in demanding environments, such as Alaska.”

The kit includes a polished spinner and all documentation for the FAA-approved STC. The installed prop assembly weighs 55.4 pounds, and the Frontier works with O-470 A, J, K, L, R and S engine models. The upgrade comes with no RPM restrictions, which means no yellow caution range to avoid on climb, descent, or in cruise.

Plus, Hartzell Propeller is putting adventure on the calendar this summer. The company will be sponsoring the Fly-out to Cavanaugh Bay on Priest Lake at the International Cessna 180/185 Club Convention in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, which runs from August 3-7. Catch the action in the beautiful Mountain West and enjoy the camaraderie with fellow pilots and the Hartzell team!
