Hartzell Partner Spotlight: D’Shannon Aviation

Date: September 12, 2025 Category: Blog Tags: , , , , ,

For over six decades, D’Shannon Aviation has been synonymous with innovation, performance, and dedication to the Beechcraft fleet. Driven by a mission to modernize and enhance aircraft through thoughtful modifications, D’Shannon proudly partners with Hartzell Propeller to support the Beechcraft fleet with the latest propeller technology

A Legacy of Innovation

Founded in 1960 in Burbank, California, by Allan Peterson under the original name Beryl Aviation, the company quickly became known for its innovative approach to aircraft upgrades. Peterson spent decades designing, developing, and securing FAA approvals for modifications that enabled Beechcraft owners to unlock the full potential of their aircraft. Along the way, he acquired additional STCs, building a comprehensive offering of airframe and powerplant enhancements for Beechcraft Barons, Bonanzas, Debonairs, and T34s.

In 2010, leadership transitioned to Scott Erickson, and the company was renamed D’Shannon Aviation, carrying forward Peterson’s vision with the same dedication to serving the Beechcraft community.

Engineering with Excellence

D’Shannon has collaborated with some of the best engineering minds across industries—including NASCAR teams, Mercury Marine Offshore Racing, and a number of renowned aerodynamicists and engineers.

Working closely with the late John Roncz, the company produced groundbreaking innovations, including modern wing tips developed using the only existing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis of the Beechcraft fleet.

D’Shannon combines its long list of impressive upgrades with a humble servant leadership mentality. “We are quite simply here to serve our clients and anyone associated with them, in any way we feasibly can,” shared Erickson.

D’Shannon’s Beechcraft Propeller Upgrades

D’Shannon’s propeller STC offerings are the result of a close partnership with Hartzell Propeller. Nearly 25 years ago, the company worked with Hartzell to obtain three Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) for scimitar aircraft propellers on Bonanzas and Debonairs. Later, Hartzell scimitar propellers were added to D’Shannon’s Baron IO-550 STC. Today’s “Super Scimitar” propellers are known for delivering “the most for the least” — more thrust for a given horsepower in take-off, climb, and cruise, and less noise at high power and RPM conditions.

Some of these propellers were developed as part of NASA’s Advanced General Aviation Technology Experiments (AGATE) program, helping to ensure the entire Beechcraft fleet remains operational and optimized for decades.

“Our many engine conversion STC offerings would not be complete without the operation of the scimitar propellers found only at Hartzell,” said Erickson. The partnership has consistently delivered the latest technology to Beechcraft owners, providing confidence and performance for every flight.

Looking Ahead

As D’Shannon looks to the future, the company remains focused on ways to enhance all powerplants and the propellers mounted to them.
