Demand for pilots is up, and universities that train aviation professionals are looking to increase their ability to meet this need. Recently, Southern Utah University upgraded its aviation training program by purchasing 10 new Cirrus SR20’s for its fleet.
The Cirrus SR20’s were chosen because they feature the most advanced cockpit technologies and instrument training systems, enabling students to learn how to pilot modern aircraft. Each SR20 also comes equipped with a three-blade metal Hartzell propeller system.
Safety was also a consideration when choosing these aircraft for the training program. A Cirrus Airframe Parachute System comes standard. This system can bring the aircraft and its pilot safely to the ground in the event of an emergency.
The University expects the first of the SR20’s to arrive this June, with the remainder coming in by the end of summer – just in time for the fall semester’s flight training program. University flight instructor Neal Donahue says that with the addition of the new aircraft, the program expects a massive jump in enrollment – an increase of up to 300%.
